Tipper has learned to lie down, roll over, shake left, shake right and she is now "well-traveled" having spent a family Christmas at the beach. She has changed the lives of two little boys and one in particular has gained a new self-confidence in his ability to train, love and be loved by this beautiful girl. The first picture was made in Tipper's cage at Murray County Animal Control at 2-3 months old - notice her little raised paw begging someone to notice her, the next are Tipper's wonderful life today, with her boys, with her family and at the beach (note the sand on her lovely face!) and the third set is Tipper at The Dog Next Door (click on any to enlarge).

Zeller
Sweet shy little Wee Zell almost did not get a home and when he did, I was worried that he might not make it, might
not stay. Thank you Mogansen family for putting up a wonderful fence just for Zeller - going above and beyond the call
of duty for this little guy THEN when he was having such a hard time finding his place in your "human" pack, adopting
another dog to keep him company - to help him find his way and fill the void left by his beloved doggie friends at The
Dog Next Door. If only every lost, lonely dog could find a family as wonderful as you to take them in and to go to such
extraordinary extremes to make him feel loved, wanted and welcome. He was here so long and his sister still awaits
her forever home that I often became disheartened wondering if he would ever have his own family to love. You
changed all that for Zeller and I will be forever grateful. So many people want the perfect dog, beautiful, outgoing and
friendly, housebroken, but you were content with two out of three and patiently waited for him to come out of his shell --
and you were rewarded with a wonderful family companion. I wish more would learn from you and realize that these
shy dogs are shy for a reason and all it takes is love and patience and time for them to come around - to learn to trust
humans again. The reward is worth the wait.

TIPPER - at The Dog Next Door - before her
adoption by the DeBates family - she was a
happy, well-cared for little girl but she didn't
have a family of her own to love and care for
her and for her to love in return
every dog who comes to this rescue will have a home for life if the perfect home is
not found for him. If you do not find your perfect companion here, tell your
neighbors about us and look at some of the other wonderful rescues for your new
best friend.
Our adopters are an integral part of this rescue effort. Without you, no dogs would
be saved. If you cannot adopt or don't know if you are ready, consider fostering a
dog for us. A week or two, a month, help socialize some of our very shy dogs that
are having a problem finding homes. Take them to the dog park, take them
shopping at Petsmart, love them for a short time and let them know that humans
are okay despite what they have experienced. If you are willing to foster a dog for
us, please contact me at deb@thedognextdoor.com. While in foster, we provide all
meds, all food and pay all vet bills. You provide a fenced yard, love and time. Not a
bad deal.
The stories below are some of our "Happy Tails." These are a few of the dogs that
have found loving forever homes. Their lives have changed forever for the better.
They will never again have an empty belly wondering where their next meal will
come from or drink filthy water from a mud puddle or lawn sprinkler run off. They
will never again run from a pan of hot water being tossed on them or a rock being
thrown at them to shoo them away from a trash can which might hold their first meal
in days. They will never swelter in the midday Georgia heat or shiver under a car in
a freezing rain. And the families that love them will never be the same either. Their
lives are now richer. They are greeted every evening by a barking, happy, wagging,
trembling bundle of energy just waiting to be petted and spoken to kindly. And, the
families are safer. Statistically, according to imprisoned criminals, they are 95%
less likely to invade a home protected by a dog REGARDLESS of the dog's size -
they will move on to the home without a dog.
Our Mission is to make "This" Dog's Life a Happy Tail - we can't save them all,
but we can save "this" dog
This is the purpose and hope for The Dog Next Door, that not only will wonderful
dogs' lives be spared horrific euthanasia, but that the dogs will make a difference in
human lives. It is our mission to use these wonderful gifts from God, these
precious dogs, to make a difference, to place them in loving homes where not only
will the dog thrive, but the family will find a renewed connection with one another,
will spend quality family time with one another walking the dog, caring for his
needs, children learning lessons in responsibility and unconditional love.
It is my hope and my goal that every adoptive family will know a renewed joy in one
another and share that joy and the joy of being the guardian to a beloved dog with
other families. One dog at a time, one person, one family at a time, one change in
legislation at a time, one more irresponsible "backyard" breeder shut down, one
more harshly enforced dog cruelty ordinance, we can make a difference and
eradicate euthanasia, and particularly inhumane euthanasia, we can stop pet
over-population, take the chains from around our canine friend's necks, get them
out of the backyards and into comfortable loving homes.
Take a minute and browse our "Happy Tails" then go back to our adoption pages
and create a happy tale of your own!!

INTRODUCTION - Why I do this, my Mission and Why YOU are important to
these Happy Tails
rescue. They became best friends here at The Dog Next Door and I would not separate them.
Many people wanted perfect Wee but no one wanted a "damaged" blind dog. Lap dogs both,
need, so very hard and they were starving for love and affection. When I met their new family,
I melted. Their new Daddy is an amazing man who will spoil them rotten and love them beyond
my imagination. Their new Mommy is not only strikingly beautiful she has a beautiful heart and
their new brother Ewok is a "pistol ball" as my Bigmama used to say! They will be great
friends. The wait for the perfect home was long but so worth it for these amazingly sweet
loving loving little girls. They have endured so much and richly deserve the wonderful new
guardians who have taken them into their lives. Celebrate with me, in your heart, over this
wonderful placement.

Little ragamuffins upon arrival, they were shy and afraid, didn't quite know what to think of their huge "brothers and
sisters" and I am sure they missed their former mommies and daddies whom I was unable to locate -- and oh, how we
tried, we had groups nationwide searching through hundreds of databases for us. Little, the gray poodle and Wee, our
precious little Lhasa mix.
To lovely ladies -- even blind, Little is a prima dona, do proud of her
new "do" and she looks -- again -- like the miniature poodle she was
born to be -- and sweet little joyful Wee -- how wonderful is rescue?

My Ladybug and her daughter Gypsy -- who were dumped at Cobb County Animal Control to die when their
owner (my former neighbor) bought a newer, bigger, better house and didn't want them digging the yard up --
and get this -- neither were diggers. Lady was two when she came here, Gypsy one and Lady was three when
she was adopted and Gypsy who was here much longer than her mother was also almost three when she
was adopted. Gypsy was her much longer because Gypsy had a bit of an attitude problem and it took a special
love to win her heart -- that love came in the form of my ONLY youthful adopter, Emily, a senior premed student
at Emory. I shy away from adopting to people under the age (or mentality) of a 25 year old -- for reasons of and
mental needs of a canine companion. Lady, whose heart was broken when she lost her "little boy" went to a
wonderful home with another little boy - and a baby sister on the way. She is the most gentle creature and will
be an outstanding lifetime companion for them both.

God bless the Beaver family for adopting Lady (Ladybug)!! Former greyhound rescuers, they are experienced
canine guardians with a beautiful home and large, gorgeous yard -- and I'll bet if Lady dug in the yard, they'd train
her not to or put in a sandbox for her -- I KNOW for certain they would not take her to the pound simply because they
thought she MIGHT damage their lovely hardwood floors or dig up the petunias - Lady will be well cared for and
loved the rest of her life. Here she is at the family's home and on a day trip to Red Top Mountain State Park where
she's found a REAL stick to play with!! Lady had gained some unhealthy weight at The Dog Next Door - and they
are working on slimming her down.
Gypsy, oh my sweet little girl, Gypsy. Emily, how blessed is Gypsy that you found her on Petfinder? I was stunned at how
quickly took to you -- like she'd known all her life that you would come along and rescue her - all she had to do was stay
here and wait on that day to arrive - the day you would come along and show her what it is to have a REAL loving, lifetime
companion. She will walk with you, protect you and love you until the day she crosses the Rainbow Bridge and wait
patiently on time to pass when you will join her -- the two of you were meant to be together. Thank you so much for loving
my dainty little dancing dog - know, Emily, that you will be in my heart, thoughts and prayers for the rest of our lives - God
whisper of a summer breeze - I will be the angel watching you and "Gypsy" or whoever your beloved canine friend might be
at that time.
Gypsy is now known as Kira to follow her celebrated Japanese heritage meaning Light or Sun - because of her sunny
disposition. Emily's brother, who is fluent in Japanese, suggested Gypsy's new name. Not bad for a "boy", huh?
"Kira" my little sunny one, you've come a long way baby girl - from being thrown away at the pound to finding someone who
loves you very much.

God bless you Emily and your big-hearted Texas
family who will be helping you raise "our" girl. You
have a true gem of a dog there in Kira.

ADOPTED -Gorgeous Cabo n/k/a BoBo
We only recently learned that Cabo, an owner turn in, was turned in by a
college boy's mother, without his knowing she was getting rid of his dog! A
shocking betrayal to him, but a blessing to Cabo who is now known as
BoBo and is the best friend of Josh - his guardian is wonderful Laura.
Cabo has a best buddy dog, some cats and a huge yard to run in. When
Laura learned of the "mixup" she was downright defensive before she
learned that they boy did not want Cabo back, just wanted to know that he
was safe and loved, well-cared for and happy. BoBo was a very smart
puppy here and has now learned to sit, lie down, roll over, give paw and

Kent and Crystal took a long time deciding on Shiloh, they wanted
to be sure SHE was happy with THEM -- which pleased me to no
end!! They are so compassionate and gentle with her -- I adore
these adopters. Thanks Kent and Crystal for your generous
donation but much more than that, thank you for loving my shy
little Shiloh -- she was SOOOO excited to see Kent after your
recent trip -- made me feel like I'd really done the right thing
despite missing her terribly - she was my bed buddy -- and a
darned good one too -- no bouncing or tumbling like Sam does -
just slept through the night LOL. I miss her but know she is in
loving lifetime home.
RADAR ADOPTED -- Shiloh's brother found a home. JJ is Radar's new best friend
and the coolest is that JJ is ALSO adopted!!! This is the second family for The Dog
Next Door where our dogs have been so very blessed as to be adopted by adoptive
children - we are proud to make unique families whole and united with our dogs, to
bring the joy of being able to give unconditional love - like they have been given
unconditional love by their adoptive parents to these very specially love children. I
have always believed that adopted children are so very blessed in a special way --
they KNOW they are wanted, they were chosen - they were not accidents conceived
in passion, they were not after thoughts of missed birth control, they were chosen
for who they are and it enriches me to be able to match them with these forlorn little
dogs that need their love so badly. Tommy and Becky will provide an outstanding
home for Radar and JJ and JJ bonded almost immediately with little Radar upon
meeting him. I was so touched to see them together - it was very emotional for me.
JJ, God bless you richly child - you are such a great kid and I can see how very
proud your parents are of you - I could not have asked for a better home for my
precious little Radar. Thank you so much for loving Radar, I know you will take very
good care of him..

ADOPTED Ryan and Trisha and their three beautiful children and
another little dog to play with complete Sasha's new family. She has a
window she shares with her new playmate to watch the mailman, the
trash trucks, and the kids coming in from school, a huge fenced has
found her place in life -- as we always knew she would -- no more for
this girl -- she is in her forever home. Sasha's new mommy, however,
needs ALL our prayers, she is battling cancer. Please add her to all
your prayer lists and remember her by name when you pray -- I am in
rescue, I believe in the power of prayer. Tricia our prayers are with you.
